Old Tree Stump Gnone Home Project – Progress Report

Gnome Home Progress Report #2

In the process, I carved out the windows and installed a gnome door and porch. Can’t over do it, but our woodland gnomes let me know what they like. These same little guys are the ones who help me in the garden by catching snails. See the blog story, http://whimsicalwoods.net/garden-slugssnails-vs-gnomes-2/

so best keep them happy. :-)

I’m working on incorporating the little stump in front into a porch entryway and may build a fireplace on it. Plan to add circular steps up to the porch from the ground. We’ll see how that turns out. It has been raining too much in the last few days to push ahead. Keep checking back for further updates.

All in fun here at Whimsical Woods.

Gnome Doors & Windows

Gnome Windows and DoorYou may have seen those plastic faces from China that can be attached to a tree. Seen one, seem them all, in my opinion. If you have a few large trees and want to add a little imaginative humor to your yard, add one of our Whimsical Woods recycled, natural wood gnome door and windows. From what I have read, no respectable gnome family will have a plastic door and windows made in China! Just won’t happen in their world. :-)

All you need is an ordinary tree trunk and our gnome door and windows, and they will immediately add a bit of whimsy to the tree causing smiles and curiosity to all who see it. A big hit for the grand kids, for sure!

They are 100% recycled, old fence board and cedar shakes. That’s the beauty of them. Like our other Whimsical Woods products, no two are exactly the same.

I have a few locals who have placed theirs indoors on the floor next to their fireplace for the house gnomes. One gentleman said his cat lies in front of the door waiting for the gnome to come out. I’d love a picture of that!

These doors and windows are on our website (http://whimsicalwoods.net) for shipment throughout the country. They make an excellent simple gift that will surely bring smiles to someone special. Enjoy!

Gnomes Make You Smile!

What is it about gnomes that cause most people to smile when they see a little gnome or one of our gnome homes? What triggers this reaction? Happy thoughts and emotions. Visitors to our booth usually start to smile when the see the gnome homes and figures. I will say, the reaction is 99% from females.

Is the fondness for gnomes hidden in our youth? Many tell me family stories of their elders collecting gnomes and telling stories around the camp fire years ago. Most have old family memories associated with these happy little people. The reason may not be a single answer, but a variety of memories and associations that come out, somewhat uncontrollably on our faces. A big smile and deep breath. I appreciate and enjoy that something I make and do brings smiles to strangers faces.

We are meeting more and more people who travel with a gnome and have their picture taken (smiling broadly!)  in different locations. I think the Travelocity Gnome got this started.

Thank you for your reactions and smiles. We plan for a lot more. All is well when you smile!IMG_4561
